ABOUT THE AUTHOR

​Tom Spoonts was born in Texas but spent much of his life in New Mexico. He graduated from Carlsbad, New Mexico high school and attended the University of Texas for two years before volunteering to serve in the U S Navy during WWII, serving from 1943 until 1946. After the war was over he attended the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque where he met and married his wife Bette in 1947. They have 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Tom also attended two semesters at Murray State University in  Kentucky while in the navy and completed special courses in Transportation Engineering at Northwestern University while serving as Assistant Director of Transportation for the City of Austin, Texas. He is a Fellow member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and a past president of the International Municipal Signal Association.

Tom and his wife Bette worked in Missions in Hawaii, Guatemala and Kenya and served as self supporting missionaries in St. Kitts in the Caribbean Islands. They are both certified as counselors for addictive substances. He served as elder for churches for 33 years and taught classes on the work of elders for churches after his retirement as a transportation engineer.
